Same-week turnaround and how we handle the call.

When someone calls about a memorial reception, we move differently. We don't run the standard sales script. We don't push you to upsize. We get the date, the headcount, the venue (home, church hall, funeral home), the time window, and a single contact. We'll have a quote back the same day, and we can usually run a memorial reception inside a week — sometimes inside three days for drop-off under 60 people. Headcount estimates for funerals are almost always too low; we'll cook to your number plus a 15% buffer at no upcharge. The smoker can hold the prep without losing anything if the headcount comes in lower than expected.

What we drop off and how we leave it.

Standard memorial drop-off: BBQ Basics with pulled pork as the meat (universal, easy to plate, kid-friendly for the grandkids, soft for older guests, doesn't dry out if the line stays open for 4 hours of guests arriving in waves). Two sides — slaw and mac, or slaw and beans, or mac and beans — your call. Brioche buns, pickles, three sauces. We deliver hot in chafers, set the line on a table you point us at, walk one person through the layout in 90 seconds, and leave. We come back the next morning or the next business day to pick up chafers. No service fee for the morning-after pickup. If the family wants to add a smoked turkey breast as the second meat (this is the most-requested add-on for memorial receptions — feels like a Sunday-supper meal), we add it line-item at no setup fee.

Venues we work with for memorial receptions.

We've delivered memorial receptions at most of the funeral homes around Colorado Springs (Angeleus, Memorial Gardens, The Springs Funeral Services), at the major church halls (St. Paul's, First United Methodist, Mountain Springs), at private homes across the city and the surrounding mountain communities, and at the smaller event halls (Cottonwood Center, the Pioneers Museum side rooms). If your venue requires a COI, we have one on file with most of them; if not, we'll send it the day of. We don't charge a memorial-reception minimum — 20 people is the standard catering minimum and that stands here too, but we don't push to upsize.

Before you ask

Funeral Reception BBQ Catering FAQ.

Can you cater a memorial reception inside three days?

Usually yes for drop-off under 60 people. Call (719) 555-0101 or email hello@stagestopbbq.com with `memorial` in the subject and we'll prioritize the quote.

What if I don't know the final headcount?

Tell us your best estimate. We cook to your number plus a 15% buffer at no upcharge. Adjust the buffer with us 24 hours out if the guest list firms up.

Can you accommodate elderly guests with softer food and lower spice?

Yes — pulled pork and the just-the-mac bowl are soft and unspiced; we'll skip the hot links entirely and put Sweet Heat sauce far from the rest of the line so it doesn't get reached for by accident. Tell us at quote.

Do you bring serving staff?

Drop-off as standard — we set the line and leave. If the family wants someone on-site for service, we add a pitmaster at the standard service rate. Most memorial receptions don't need it.

How does payment work for memorial receptions?

25% deposit holds the slot, balance due 7 days after. We accept card, ACH, and check. Inside-a-week orders can run on a single payment at delivery if that's easier for the family.
